There are hardly people who haven't heard of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller ‘The 3 Mistakes of my Life’ which has garnered more attention after Abhishek Kapoor decided to retell the story with a slightly different vision as Kai Po Che. The nuances he adds to the film are what makes this story of three friends remarkably moving. Kai Po Che Review

Story

The movie is largely based in Ahmedabad while the movie depicts the crazy love of the people of India with Cricket, Religion and Politics (which are many-a-time linked together). This is the story of three best friends Govind, Ishaan and Omi. Govind is a geeky guy who falls in love with Ishaan's sister tutoring her. He is a also an ambitious businessman. Ishaan is the crazy god of cricket in school during his school time who failed to make it big. Omi is the religious chap who has a penchant towards right wing politics.
After they set up a business with the help of Omi's uncle Bittoo Mama, their fates are tested. Ishaan starts living his cricket dream training school children and finds a young talent. Differences develop between the trio and they start falling apart. Will their frail friendship stand the test of time? Will they come together forgiving each other's "mistakes"? Watch the movie for the "feels" of true friendship and a better understanding of reconciliation, although you know how the movie ends.

Analysis :

Abhishek Kapoor has earned respect from me with his story telling skills. He will be one director who will be among the few who remain in the industry after many years to come. No nonsense delivery of emotions, subtle nuances and great details, the scenaries, adding to an otherwise normal movie make it a must watch. Songs from the movie like Manja, and background music are the highlights of the movie. An unbiased view of the communal riots brings the movie together.

Performance :

Sushant Singh Rajput was marginally better among the best performances from the debutants. For a debutant, his skills are invitations for other directors willing to hone new talent in the industry. Ishaan is a very difficult character to carry along in the movie but Sushant does it effortlessly as if he is walking in the skin of the cricket lunatic. Raj Kumar Yadav as Govind is brilliant too with the cut-the-melodrama kind of action as a businessman. Though there is little he says in the movie, his emotions are powerful and make an impact on the viewers.
Amit Sadh seemed rather blunt in the initial stages but that added to the contrast at the end of the movie where Omi breaks down. His rage and loyalty to friends are just more than brilliant. Amrita donning the role of Vidya as the quirky adolescent did great in her peurile role. It was the independent nature of her role without interfering with the movie, which made it a better character.
Clever role of Manav Kaul as Bittoo Mama needs to be lauded.

Final Word: Kai Po Che Review Watch the movie for the strong strong emotions, bromance and unbiased view of the incidents in Gujarat. Excellent rendition of a well known story.

Story

Murder 3 is the third movie in the successful Murder franchise. The movie stars Randeep Hooda, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren and is directed by Vishesh Bhatt. While the first two movies gave us memorable songs like ‘Bheege Hont’ and ‘Haal-e-Dil’ respectively, Murder 3 doesn’t quite live up to its predecessors.

The album has seven songs in total, three composed by Pritam, one by Roxen and three remixes. It starts with ‘Teri Jhuki Nazar’ which is the pick of the album; it has a nice and lazy feel to it where Shafqat Amanat Ali keeps you hooked to the song with his refrain. KK’s ‘Mat Aazma Re’ comes with a liberal doze of violin, it’s something you must have heard before but is catchy in parts. ‘Jaata Hai Tujh Tak’ by Nikhil D’Souza, is a typical dance number relying on synths and beats to keep up its celebratory spirit. ‘Hum Jee Lenge’ by Mustafa Zahid is the heartbreak song of the album which has the refrain working for it again. The lyrics are average and revolve around love, celebration and heartbreak.

All in all, the songs sound quite similar too each other with none of them exactly leaving an impression on you. It’s 2.5 out of 5 for Murder 3, the album.

Analysis :

Having a bad screenplay, and not much better music or acting, it is the story that comes to the rescue of Murder 3.

Vikram (Randeep Hooda) a fashion-cum-wildlife photographer who shifts to Mumbai from South Africa along with his girlfriend Roshni (Aditi Rao Hydari). The couple is crazy about each other and plan to marry soon. They even purchase a grand colonial mansion on the outskirts of the city, but Aditi soon discovers that her boyfriend has a roving eye. So she decides to hide out in a secret room in the mansion to test his love for her, and to find out if he has affairs with other women.

This lands her in deep trouble as Vikram hits the jackpot in a few days in the form of a new girlfriend Nisha, played by the super hot Sara Loren aka Mona Lisa aka Mona Laizza! Meanwhile, the police start suspecting Randeep to be the murderer in the mysterious disappearance of his fiancee Roshni. Yet the situation is more than a mere murder mystery.

Now a good murder mystery usually has a few standout factors: a great story, capable actors, a flowing screenplay and a kick-ass twist. Murder 3 – which in its name announces that it is a murder mystery – lacks almost all of the above. But it is the story with a twisted climax and a sense of poetic justice it leaves you with, that comes to its rescue. However, it’s too late when it does, ‘coz you have already gone through the first half by then and realised that boredom coupled with incessant hamming (even the camera hams, if possible!) can leave scars on the brain. So when the actor onscreen screams, “Stop it! Stop, please!” you know someone in the movie understands how you feel.

An 'official adaptation' of the Colombian film La Cara Oculta, Murder 3 could have been better had it been a frame to frame copy, which it isn’t, although you can see a few scenes that are exactly the same in the two films. Yet, even at its best moments, Murder 3 is like a poor cousin. We expected more, especially when we considered other movies from the Vishesh Films stable, made on a respectable budget, and lauded as the directorial debut of the producer's son!

And Vishesh Bhatt, in his directorial debut, shows that he has plenty more to learn about making a successful commercial film. The only good decision by the young director may be that he picked La Cara Oculta to make into his version, with the requisite Bollywoodian masala.

Performance :

On a scale of one to 10 on the ham metre, with 10 being the extreme point of excess, Randeep as a hotshot fashion-wildlife photographer scores a 5; Aditi comes in with a performance rating of 4; while the oh-so-sexy Sara scores a full on 10! The three try hard to set their characters right, yet they seem so shallow that you don’t get the full impact of the twists and turns, and everything seems unfinished.

It would probably be a far better use of your time to call for the original film from the DVD library, watch it with your beloved, and look deep into her/his eyes to figure out if they are cheating on you. Because the movie is as much about infidelity and trust in a love relationship as it is a murder mystery.

Final Word: Murder 3 Movie Review Whatever it is, one can't help it!

Dabangg 2 Review

I had my doubt’s when Salman told the unsuspecting fans that the movie was not same as Dabangg and was a continuation. I was right, Salman was trying to plant the idea into the fans while tricking them to believe that they would be seeing something very different in the movie but they will be fooled. Dabangg 2 is pretty much like the extra scenes from the movie one put to use for the sequel or pseudo sequel should we say.
Regardless of this movie, I always had the idea that Salman Khan had movies that had a striking similarity earlier and just as that idea was waning off from my mind here comes the spoiler.

Story

The rare combination of corrupt but good cop, Chulbul Pandey moves with his wife, Rajjo, (Sonakshi Sinha) and family; step-father Prajapati (Vinod Khanna) and brother Makkhi (Arbaaz Khan), to Kanpur where he would have his own troop of loyalists transferred along with him too. While the whole town feel happy with his presence in the town, the local don/ political aspirant, Thakur Bachcha and his sons feel the opposite since his attitude meddles with their mischief.

After an incident of abduction of a bride from a wedding, Bachcha’s brother Gainda is denounced during the time of elections while the campaign for elections continues. Salman finds the brother and teaches him a lesson. At the same time he bonds with his father while telling him about his son.
Will the brothers unite and plan the doom of Robin Hood Pandey?

Analysis :

Novelty has been forsaken completely in the movie so please kindly keep in mind that you are watching Dabangg in a different form at the most. Script is almost the same and what makes it worse is the screenplay which makes you confused if the guy at the theater by mistake has been playing the first part instead of the second. In a few scenes this might be the right thing to do while entertaining the crowd that they are watching Dabangg series but it also gives you the impression of being downright lazy. If there is someone who can explain how the family bonds without the mother in the movie I would be thankful to them.

Makkhi is dumb but so that that his wife is missing? Why does Prakash Raj come back for a late revenge? What makes the movie worthwhile is the comedy track of the movie. One-liners seem to be fine especially since we are waiting for them. Rajjo and Salman are a cute pair with great chemistry.

For a debut movie, Arbaaz Khan can be proud. The BGM is enjoyable throughout the movie. Action scenes are done well with nice slo-mo fights. The songs need no intro, Sajid Wajid have been great. Oh and you do have a climax scene where Salman goes topless in a fight, in a less dramatic way though.

Performance :

Salman Khan, as the Kung Fu Pandey is hilarious and has done well but only with the comedy and a bit of action. We couldn’t understand if it was the character or his face that was without emotions. Sonakshi is good in the movie though we like her to be more active than just dry clothes in the movie. Arbaaz Khan is a class 1 idiot, no offence, he did justice to the role. Vinod Khanna, played a great step-father. A few moving scenes when he describes his love and his wife.

Poorest was Prakash Raj, comparing him with his own old self. With a notoriety in the movie industry to be the best villain, Prakash Raj has decided not to use the talent. You can’t be badder than Gainda, Deepak Dobriyal is the best in this role. Malaika and Kareena were charming in the item song.

Final Word: Dabangg 2 review for the hilarious comedy, few one-liners, Fevicol item song but on the story front you will only be disappointed.
